Arne Jansen, Anders Jormin, and Uwe Steinmetz: "The Pilgrimage"

Wednesday, 26. Mar 2025

8 p.m.

Villa Elisabeth

jazz concert

The connection between sacred music and jazz, between East and West, between jazz and classical music is pure music to the ears with these three soloists.

These three musicians are a stroke of luck for the music scene: on double bass is Sweden's Anders Jormin, one of the most important bassists on the European jazz scene with an impressive artistic CV. As bandleader of ECM, he has released eight albums and worked with legends such as Elvin Jones, Albert Mangelsdorff, John Taylor, Joe Henderson, Lee Konitz, and Kenny Wheeler. On guitar is Arne Jansen, the two-time "ECHO Jazz" award winner from Berlin, who has played with the Senegalese Orchestra Baobab, cellist Stephan Braun, and Jazzanova, and whose duo recording with Nils Wülker recently conquered the German pop charts. On saxophone is Uwe Steinmetz, also based in Berlin, who, in addition to his collaborations with Joe Maneri and Tord Gustavsen, among others, has made a name for himself as a composer for the NDR Big Band and the Fitzwilliam String Quartet. In 2016, the German-Swedish trio thrilled audiences for the first time at a music festival in Gothenburg. The extraordinary bond between the musicians not only shaped their joint tour in the fall of 2022, but also their new album "The Pilgrimage." Inspired by pilgrimages from various religions, they strive for a deep connection in a musical and spiritual sense. With every note, they become a sounding board for their audience, creating a unique atmosphere that touches and connects. Music that pulsates evenly, vibrates harmoniously, and thus translates differentiated perceptions of life into collective sound.
