Classical Music Isn't Dead - DSO School Music
4 p.m.
Chamber music | Cultural education | Youth project
The DSO's music education work is multifaceted, and the orchestra members are fully committed to it. They visit school classes, present their instruments at children's concerts, rehearse with amateurs before the "Symphonic Mob" – and they mentor ensembles of all age groups at Berlin schools, including the Beethoven Gymnasium, Canisius-Kolleg, Droste-Hülshoff-Gymnasium, Heinz-Berggruen-Gymnasium, and Katholische Schule Salvator. They provide regular lessons and professional guidance, accompanying the musical process from rehearsing the works and addressing technical questions to chamber music ensemble playing. They facilitate an intensive exchange about and through music – with the aim of inspiring young people to embrace this wonderful form of communication and encouraging and promoting creativity and independent exploration. As personal mentors, they provide the ensemble members with advice and support, sometimes over a period of years.
