Passion Oratorio | Early Music | Concert
Carl Heinrich Graun's "Der Tod Jesu" (The Death of Jesus) was a classic in Berlin's concert life for many years and, since its premiere in 1755, was featured almost continuously during Easter on the programs of the Sing-Akademie and other concert and choir associations. It was not until the end of the 19th century that the Passion oratorio was supplanted by Johann Sebastian Bach's increasingly popular Passions and fell into oblivion. The concert in the Sophienkirche is part of the 2025 Easter Festival of the lautten compagney, the Staats- und Domchor, and the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin. An invitation to rediscover this unknown masterpiece of Passion composition.
