Sophienkirche

Berlin's only existing Baroque church in the city center

Sophienkirche is centrally located between Hackescher Markt and Große Hamburger Straße. Built in 1712/13 as the parish church of Spandauer Vorstadt and named after Queen Sophie Luise of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, it is now a popular concert venue and broadcast location for radio and television thanks to its clear acoustics and Schuke organ. Inside, the Sophienkirche appears spacious and airy: a banquet hall with neo-baroque decorations and a preserved pulpit, organ, baptismal font, and other historical furnishings. Nestled in a small park with tall trees, the church is also a green oasis of calm. The church is actively used as a place of worship by the Evangelical Church Congregation at Weinberg. Sophienkirche can be rented for film shoots, photo shoots, receptions, and TV broadcasts.
