"ICONIC" Exhibition on Display at St. Elisabeth Church
To mark Gallery Weekend, Anna Kimmerle of AK Galerie Berlin presents the exhibition ICONIC. This collaborative project by photographer Lorenzo Agius and artist Izzy Weissgerber invites viewers to
rediscover the boundaries of artistic genres. Agius, known for his intimate portraits of icons such as Cate Blanchett and Ewan McGregor, captures the moment when glamour fades and reality becomes visible. Weissgerber enters this process with her instinctive practice of gestural expression and emotional intervention. She uses the photographic image as a foundation and alters its emotional temperature through gestural additions.
In this exciting interstitial space, a third visual language emerges that neither of them could have created alone. The works thus become spaces of negotiation between control and surrender, visibility and concealment.
In an era of visual overload, ICONIC aims to evoke genuine emotional resonance in the viewer. Anna Kimmerle describes the core of Agius and Weissgerber’s work as “presence”—a moment of pause in which beauty, vulnerability, and strength coexist. Both artists share a belief in the power of the image and of art as a vehicle for emotional, cultural, and psychological meaning.
The exhibition "ICONIC" runs from May 1 to May 3, 2026, daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
