re:organ - Gamut Inc

Gamut Inc. is dedicated to exploring the new possibilities of the computer-controlled pipe organ. The focus is not only on hyper-virtuoso playing techniques, but above all on what emerges beyond human perception: microscopic shifts, nuanced sound events, temporal overlaps, and rhythmic processes outside a fixed grid. Here, automation is understood not as an effect, but as a compositional tool.

The concert features works from the organ album “Radiating,” which consistently explores these possibilities. The music moves between harmonic densification and noise-like qualities, between static sound fields and accelerated textures. Layers come into motion, harmonies shift, and rhythms emerge from friction and repetition. This gives rise to a euphorically intoxicating pull that has a physical impact rather than telling a story: the Schuke organ at the Sophienkirche has never been played in this way before.

About Gamut Inc.
Gamut Inc. is a Berlin-based ensemble founded in 2013 by composers Marion Wörle and Maciej Śledziecki. At the heart of their work is the computer-controlled pipe organ: using MIDI technology and custom-developed software, they control historic church and concert organs as well as their own wind-dynamic instrument, BLACK SQUARE. In this way, Gamut Inc transforms the organ into a gigantic machine synthesizer capable of producing microtonal tunings, extreme note densities, and sound textures that would be unattainable for human players.

In addition to the organ, the ensemble develops its own sound machines and robotic instruments and stages experimental music theater productions, including a human-machine trilogy that premiered at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Since 2021, Gamut Inc has curated the international AGGREGATE festival for automated pipe organs. Commissioned works created there include pieces by Rrose, Phillip Sollmann & Konrad Sprenger, Jessica Ekomane, Hampus Lindwall, and Mark Fell, which were released on a double CD by the WERGO label.

Gamut Inc has performed and worked as part of residencies throughout Europe, Japan, and North America, including at the CTM Festival, the Sónar Festival in Barcelona, the Orgelpark Amsterdam, and at numerous prominent organs in Berlin. Their music moves between ritual and ecstasy. Automation does not appear as mechanical repetition, but rather as a reflex—as a new, physically experiential language of sound.
