African Book Festival
17.04.20 7-10 pm
18.-19.04.20 10 am-8 pm
It is organized by InterKontinental and in 2020 the festival is curated by Kalaf Epalanga with a focus on lusophone literature and art. The first two editions, curated by Olumide Popoola (Nigeria) and Tsitsi Dangarembga (Zimbabwe), have gathered in Berlin up to 40 guest authors representing a wide range of forms and styles from award-winning to first published writers to discuss ideas and experiences in debates that have been insightful and inspiring. Amongst the names who attended are Chris Abani, Ben Okri, Bernardine Evaristo, Namwali Serpell, Ayọbámi Adébáyọ, Lesley Nneka Arimah, Helon Habila and pivotal publishers such as Ellah Wakatama Allfrey (Indigo Press), Bibi Bakare-Yusuf (Cassava Republic Press) and Sharmaine Lovegrove (Dialogue Books). The program is conceived and curated by a different literary figure from the African continent each year which leads to new perspectives in conversations and a changing regional, linguistic, and cultural focus – an attempt at grasping the vast diversity of the African continent and it’s descents across the world.
