Wolfgang Kogert (Vienna) plays works by Muffat, Kerll, Mozart and Bernhard Lang.

Wolfgang Kogert, a famous concert organist who became an international name for his interpretations of contemporary works, will be a guest at the Sophienkirche in December. In addition to numerous works for solo organ, he recently premiered the organ concertos by Bernd Richard Deutsch with the ORF Symphony Orchestra and by Klaus Lang with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

The centerpiece of his program in Sophien will be the German premiere of Bernhard Lang's "Organ Loops". In his first organ work, Lang works with finely differentiated changes and overlapping of patterns. Flowing, bumping, furious, pensive, the "organ machine" gets into motion. The registrations of the work are idiomatic and puristically clear. Kogert brings together baroque music from the Habsburg tradition and music by Christoph Herndler around Lang's work.

Program:
Georg Muffat (1653 - 1704)
Toccata secunda

Johann Caspar Kerll (1627 - 1693)
Ciaccona

Johann Jacob Froberger (1616 - 1667)

Organ-Loops Vol. 1 (2022) (German premiere)

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791)

variations sérieuses variation after Mendelssohn op. 54 (2009)
